Fifth Meeting of the Barcelona Convention Offshore Oil and Gas Group (OFOG)

The Fifth Meeting of the Barcelona Convention Offshore Oil and Gas Group (OFOG) Sub-Group on Environmental Impact will be held in Lija, Malta between 19 and 20 February 2025. 

The Meeting is being organized by the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC), pursuant to the Programme of Work and Budget for 2024-2025 of the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and is financed by the Mediterranean Trust Fund (MTF). 

The principal objectives of the Meeting will be: 

• to report on the progress made in the implementation of the Mediterranean Offshore Action Plan since the fourth Meeting of the OFOG Sub-Group on Environmental Impact
• to approve the Mediterranean Offshore Action Plan (2026-2035) within the framework of the Protocol for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea against Pollution resulting from Exploitation and Exploration of the Continental Shelf and the Seabed and its Subsoil
• to approve the Regional Offshore Standards and Guidelines on the Removal (Decommissioning) of Installations and the related Financial Aspects
• to define the Offshore Programme of Work for the biennium 2026-2027 

The target audience for the Meeting are the Government officials responsible for the supervision and coordination of the national implementation of the Offshore Protocol, as well as representatives of involved regional institutions and partners.
