Fourteen (14) online country-specific sessions on the use of Readiness Evaluation Tool for Oil Spills, and the Oiled Wildlife Assessment matrices are being be organised by REMPEC, from 21 September to 4 November 2021, as a follow-up of the Sub-regional Workshop on the assessment of the level of oil spill response planning and readiness management for the Central and Eastern Mediterranean (Online, 7-8 September 2021).
These national practical sessions financed through the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme (ITCP), will allow participants from Central and Eastern Mediterranean countries, who attended the Sub-regional Workshop, to gain hands-on experience on the tools and to conduct informal assessments of the country’s preparedness programme, with tailor-made support from REMPEC experts’ team.
The outcome of these assessments will lead to the elaboration of National Improvement Programmes, defining the required actions to fill the identified gaps and enhance the level of preparedness of each individual countries and ultimately of the Mediterranean region.
By focusing this systematic evaluation process on Central and Eastern Mediterranean countries, after its successful implementation in Western Mediterranean countries (West ….in full (West MOPoCo Project)), nearly all countries in the Mediterranean region would have gone through such assessment.
Countries will then take part in a wrap-up session to be held online on 23 November 2021.
