EPC 2010 Marine Environment Protection Workshop – Nov 15, 2010

On Monday 15 November, 20 junior officers from Azerbaïdjan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Latvia, and Romania together with some officers from the US Navy and Coast Guard attended a workshop on marine environment protection at REMPEC premises. This workshop was taking place in the framework of the US Navy annual “Eurasian partnerships Capstone” (EPC),  a conference for maritime forces that aims to increase maritime safety and security by information sharing. EPC 2010 was sponsored by U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Africa/ Commander, U.S. 6th Fleet Public Affairs . Presentations on the legal framework and the main international conventions for the protection of the marine environment were delivered by the Centre  and in the afternoon the officers were requested to participate in a table top exercise dealing with  the management of a tier III response to an oil spill.
