MEDESS-4MS Project – SUB-REGIONAL END USER MEETING La Seyne-sur-Mer, France, 8 July 2014 – Aug 08, 2014
The Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC) and the Centre of Documentation, Research and Experimentation on Accidental Water Pollution (Cedre) jointly organised the MEDESS-4MS Project Sub-Regional End User Meeting for Western Mediterranean and Tyrrhenian which took place on 8 July 2014, at the French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea (IFREMER), La Seyne-sur-Mer, France.
This event was the first Sub-regional End User Meeting organised by the Project to present to end users MEDESS-4MS’ oil spill decision tools and their potential use in preparation of anti-pollution exercise, contingency planning, and during emergency situations.
The Meeting was attended by 14 participants, including experts and representatives of the Spanish Maritime Security and Rescue Society (SASEMAR), the Algerian and Italian Coast Guard, the French maritime “Préfecture” and General Secretariat of the Sea; as well as MEDESS4MS Partners from METEO-FRANCE, IFREMER, REMPEC and CEDRE.
The aim of the Meeting was to inform and train users on the tools developed within the framework of the project, through presentations, demonstrations and practical exercises.
In the coming months, further Sub-Regional End Users Meetings will be organised by other MEDESS-4MS Partner to reach end-users from the entire Mediterranean region. Whilst the first General End Users Meeting was organised by REMPEC on 4th June 2014, in Brussels, Belgium, a second General End Users Meeting is scheduled in Italy toward the end of the project.
