Mr Franck Lauwers recruited as Programme Officer (Prevention) at REMPEC – Mar 17, 2015
REMPEC is pleased to announce that following the completion of the recruitment process, Mr Franck Lauwers has assumed his duties as Programme Officer (Prevention) at REMPEC with effect from 9 March 2015.
Mr Lauwers holds a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geosciences and Environment from the Ecole Supérieure de l’Energie et des Matériaux de l’Université d’Orléans, France. He also obtained a certificate of advanced studies in environmental diplomacy from the Université de Genève, Switzerland in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme. He joined the Malta Environment and Planning Authority in 2002, where he worked on a broad range of topics related to environment protection at national, European and international level, addressing the international shipping dimension of issues such as waste management, ship recycling, climate change, the global environmental aspects of sustainable development as well as policy issues discussed in the framework of the Barcelona Convention, its Protocols and the Mediterranean Action Plan.
Duties and responsibilities of Mr Lauwers at REMPEC include a variety of technical, policy and regional regulatory duties related to marine environment protection issues and, in particular, to prevention of pollution from ships, assisting the Head of Office on policy issues regarding regional activities in that field and providing technical assistance and expert advice to the competent national authorities of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention, amongst others.
