National Training Course on Preparedness for Oil-Polluted Shoreline Cleanup and Oiled Wildlife Response – Oct 27, 2014
Within the framework of the Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme (ITCP) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC) in co-operation with the Ministry of Spatial Planning and Environment (MATE) of the Algerian Government, organized the National Training Course on Preparedness for Oil-Polluted Shoreline Cleanup and Oiled Wildlife Response, which was held in Algiers, Algeria, between 27 and 29 October 2014.
The training targeted representatives of the Civil Protection, local authorities and NGOs who could be involved, under the supervision of the competent authorities, on a voluntary basis, in oil spill response operations.
The main objectives of this event were to train trainers on oil spill voluntary management, oil-polluted shoreline cleanup and oiled wildlife response to strengthen local cooperation and establish a group of trainers able to disseminate the acquired knowledge at the local or regional level.
Thirty participants attended the training which consisted of two days of theoretical training, as well as a full day exercise in the field on the beach of El Kettani (Babel Oued, Algeria).
