REMPEC hosted the 3rd OpenRisk Worshop to support preparedness and response to pollution at sea – Apr 24, 2018
OpenRisk is a two-year project (2017-2018). focused on developing risk assessment methods for accidental maritime spills. The project is co-financed by the European Commission DG ECHO (Civil Protection Financial Instrument).
The Third Inter-regional Workshop on Risk Assessment Tools for Pollution Preparedness and Response (PPR) took place on 24-25 April 2018, in Valletta, Malta. The host of the Workshop was the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC).
The focus of the Workshop was on practical testing of open source risk assessment tools. This included new tools that have been developed during the project, and tools commonly used for risk assessments. In addition, the aim of the Workshop was to present OpenRisk Guideline for Regional Risk Management to Improve European Preparedness and Response at Sea (here after, OpenRisk Guideline) in order to get feedback for finalization.
The Third OpenRisk Workshop was attended by participants from national administrations, intergovernmental regional organizations, IALA, DNV GL, research institutions, and the HELCOM Secretariat.
During the two days, and further to the presentation and the discussion of the OpenRisk Guideline the attendees assisted presentations about the toolbox of risk assessment such as IWRAP, ERC-M, KYSTRISK, MARINRISK, FRAM and NG-SRW/ADSAM followed by hands-on sessions, where the Workshop participants had the opportunity to test some of the tools in practice. The presentations of the Workshop are available on the public HELCOM meeting site of the OpenRisk 3-2018 Workshop.
The last OpenRisk Workshop will be held in Malmö, Sweden in autumn 2018 with the ultimate goal of putting an end to the project by providing an effective framework involving a finalized OpenRisk Guideline and a set of useful tools on spill prevention, preparedness and response.
