REMPEC hosts its Ninth Meeting of Focal Points – Apr 21, 2009
The Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC), hosted its Ninth Meeting of official Focal Points, from 21 to 24 April 2009, at the Radisson SAS Bay Point Resort, St. Julians, Malta.
The objective of the Meeting was to present and evaluate the implementation of the programme of activities of REMPEC for the period 2008-2009, including activities carried out under the Regional Strategy for Prevention of and Response to Marine Pollution from Ships. The Meeting also discussed and endorsed in principle the draft programme of activities of the Centre for the 2010-2011 biennium, which will be subsequently submitted, together with its relative proposed budget and recommendations, to the next Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention, which will take place in November 2009, in Marrakech (Morocco), for review and adoption.
Participating in the Meeting were representatives of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention, as well as representatives from relevant United Nations organizations and non-governmental organizations.
