On the 5 and 9 December 2011, REMPEC hosted two sessions of the Marine Environment Protection Module of the Eurasia Partnership Capstone (EPC) 2011 organised in Malta between the 4 and 9 December 2011 by the U.S. Naval Forces Europe in close co-operation with the Armed Forces of Malta. Twelve Junior Officers from Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania and Ukraine participating in the Marine Environment Protection Module attended the sessions at REMPEC.
The US Navy annual “Eurasia Partnership Capstone” (EPC), is a conference for maritime forces that aims to increase maritime safety and security by information sharing. EPC 2011 had two broad objectives: to deepen the relationship between Eurasia Nations and to spark collaboration to improve interoperability between Partner Navies and Coast Guards.
This was the second consecutive time that REMPEC assisted in the organisation of EPC’s Marine Environment Protection Module following its introduction in EPC last year.
