Sub-regional Workshop on Claims Management for Arab Speaking Countries and Technical Session on Assistance support cost and reimbursement – Nov 28, 2012
The Sub-regional Workshop on Claims Management for Arab Speaking Countries and the Technical Session on Assistance support cost and reimbursement organized by the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC) in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPC Funds), the Mediterranean Oil Industry Group (MOIG) and the “Société Anonyme Marocaine de l’Industrie du Raffinage” (SAMIR) was held at the Aventi Mohammedia Hotel, in Mohammedia, Morocco between 28 and 30 November 2012.
These events co-financed by the IMO Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme, MOIG and SAMIR was aimed at Senior Government officials who have been designated to undertake claims management following a marine pollution from ships and at representatives of the oil industry.
The Workshop provided knowledge on the related international conventions and their transposition in the national legislation, claims management, eligibility of claims and the procedures through presentations and practical sessions.
The Technical Session was aimed at exchanging information and discussing on assistance costs calculation and reimbursement in accordance with Article 13 (Reimbursement of cost of assistance) of the Protocol concerning Cooperation in Preventing Pollution from Ships and, in Cases of Emergency, Combatting Pollution of the Mediterranean Sea and with the related annex to the International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Co-operation (OPRC).
Participants were requested to provide answers to the questionnaires prepared in view of the discussions of the Technical session.
