Webinar: Review of Draft Guidelines for Joint Spill Response Exercises – Feb 04, 2025
The Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC), organised on Tuesday, 4 February 2025, a webinar for the review and discussion of the draft Guidelines for the Development of Joint Spill Response Exercises (JSREs) within the Framework of the Sub-regional Contingency Plans (SCPs).
These guidelines being developed by REMPEC, with the assistance of Green Bow Maritime Ltd, in accordance with the UNEP/MAP Programme of Work for the biennium 2024-2025, under the activity ‘‘Strengthen the capacity of individual coastal States to respond efficiently to marine pollution incidents’’. They cover main phases of an exercise project, including design, preparatory actions, exercises ((tabletop and on Scene, after-action activities).
The webinar brought together 53 key stakeholders and enabled to present the framework for conducting effective Joint Spill Response Exercises (JSREs) and to review the process followed in drafting these Guidelines. Key considerations for the successful preparation and execution of JSREs were examined, and constructive dialogue to validate, refine, and ensure that the recommendations align seamlessly with existing National Contingency Plans (NCPs) and Subregional Contingency Plans (SCPs) was conducted.
The final Guidelines will be presented for adoption at the forthcoming 16th Meeting of REMPEC Focal Points (Malta, 13-15 May 2025).
